[PODCAST] My Personal Story with an Eating Disorder and Disordered Eating
[To Birth and Beyond Podcast: Episode 108]
My Personal Story with an Eating Disorder and Disordered Eating
On today’s episode of To Birth and Beyond Podcast, Jessie talks through her personal journey with an eating disorder and disordered eating – including what has shifted for her, how, and why it’s important in her personal and professional life – and for YOU!
Today’s show comes with a content warning: this might not be appropriate for you if you are going through a journey of an eating disorder.
On a fluke chance, the first time I’ve ever spoken at length about my history with an eating disorder comes in podcast episode form during National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.
You can now listen to Episode 108 of the @tobirthandbeyondpodcast where I detail through my history with an eating disorder (anorexia) from the time I was 8-years old, to the management, and healing from it.
It started with the most innocent comment on the playground at 8-years old when a boy called me fat. I was on the monkey bars with friends, with my stomach showing when it happened.
I can still picture the moment clearly. I won’t name names. ?
That moment, and my interpretation of it, sparked a multiple year period of true eating disorder danger, and decades of reworking my relationship with food and my body.
In this episode for the @tobirthandbeyondpodcast I talk through my experience in the most full and honest way I ever have publicly. It’s taken me a long time to be in a place where I feel like recounting it has value.
That moment on the playground – and all the reframing work since – has influenced how I coach my fitness clients and how I parent on a deep level.
Have kids? Work with kids? Spend time with kids? My hope is that we all teach them about fatness, diversity of bodies, and all the ways bodies are worthy.
